Zilla / File guidelines
Printed artwork
file guidelines.
A few careful checks before submission help keep your print project moving. Prepare your PDF using the requirements below.
PDF files only. Please do not submit password-protected PDFs.
Files that do not follow these guidelines may delay production. Artwork changes needed to meet production standards may incur additional design fees.
The PDF option opens the original guide in Adobe Acrobat, where you can download a copy.
Bleed & edges
Include 1/8 inch (.125 inch) bleed on all files. Background art and images must extend into the bleed area to avoid white edges on the final printed product.
Images & fonts
Embed all images and outline all fonts in your files. This helps ensure that images appear correctly and fonts are not altered during printing.
Final print size
Materials are printed at the size of the submitted file. For example, a file supplied at A4 will print at A4.
We can resize artwork to standard US Letter, 8.5 × 11 inches, or another desired size. Let our team know if resizing is needed.
Color matching
- Set up all artwork in CMYK color mode.
- For accurate color matching, we use the Pantone Matching System. When an exact match is needed, use proper PMS swatches or suitable Pantone call-outs.
- If PMS colors are not included or called out, we will print using CMYK values. A hard-copy printed proof can be provided for color matching; this adds production time and expense.
Final proofs. Your final check.
Zilla will provide final artwork proofs for review and verification before production. Please check color, spelling, sizing, and any other areas of concern carefully. If we notice errors in your artwork, we will bring them to your attention before or during the final proofing process.
